Clubs & Extra Curriculum - Academic
Decathlon
St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School participates in the
Junior High Academic Decathlon. The main purpose of
Decathlon is to “celebrate Catholic education and to
challenge our more capable learners. It emphasizes
collaboration among students and the feeling of success in
meeting academic challenges.”
The Decathlon includes three sections: the Logic Quiz, the
Super Quiz, and the Individual Categories. All ten team
members work together on the Logic Quiz and the Super Quiz,
while eight of the ten take separate tests on their
individual area of expertise.
The local diocesan competition is always the first Saturday
in March. Approximately 25-30 schools compete at that level.
The winner from each diocese competes in the State Event the
first Saturday in May.
Junior High Academic Decathlon is open to 6th, 7th,
and 8th grade students. While only ten students
compete on the day of the event, St. Francis has always had
a much larger team than ten. We usually have a team of
approximately twenty students. Those that are interested,
committed, and team-oriented are welcome to join us.
